How to Rig an Outrigger Pole

Rigging an outrigger pole can be a complex process that requires some knowledge of boating and fishing equipment. Here are some basic steps to rig an outrigger pole:

TACO Marine | Mahi Fishing

  1. Choose the right pole: First, select an outrigger pole that is appropriate for the size of your boat and the type of fishing you plan to do. The length of the pole will depend on the width of your boat and the distance you want to extend the outrigger from the boat.
  2. Install the outrigger base: The outrigger base should be securely mounted to the boat in a location that allows the pole to extend out over the water. The base should also be positioned so that the pole can be angled up or down as needed. At TACO, we offer a variety of Outrigger Mounts for boat tops and gunnels. Check out our selection here.
  3. Attach the rigging lines: The rigging lines should be attached to the top of the outrigger pole and run through the guides on the side of the boat. The lines should then be tied off to cleats or other secure points on the boat.
  4. Add a release clip: A release clip can be attached to the rigging line to hold the fishing line in place until a fish strikes. When a fish bites, the clip releases the fishing line, allowing you to reel in the catch.
  5. Adjust the tension: Adjust the tension on the rigging lines to ensure that the pole is held securely in place, but can be easily raised or lowered as needed.
  6. Attach lures or baits: Finally, attach lures or baits to the fishing lines and deploy them from the outrigger pole.

We also have a wildly popular video with Captain Mark Henderson from the Liquid Fire Fishing Team about how to Rig Outriggers. Check it out below.

It is important to note that the specific steps and equipment needed to rig an outrigger pole may vary depending on the type of outrigger system you have and the fishing conditions you are facing. It may be helpful to consult with a professional or experienced boater to ensure that your outrigger pole is rigged correctly and safely.
